[su_spoiler title=”Q1 If I’m looking for a psychotherapist for counseling service, does that mean I am abnormal?”]Absolutely not. Therapy is the greatest gift you can give yourself. If you consistently apply the tools you are given, therapy may make all your relationships more skillful, more ease-filled, and more harmonious. The cultural myth is that only people who seek therapy are somehow “sick” or “not normal.” The reality is that more and more people are discovering that therapy helps them more quickly counteract and unlearn disruptive behavioral patterns or lines of thinking that prevent them from reaching their fullest potential.[/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”Q2 My friends and family are comforting, why do I still need a psychotherapist?”]A2 Having a complete support system is definitely helpful for your mental health. However, family members and friends that have never gone through psychotherapy training may not have the full skill-set when handling and digesting one’s out-pouring of emotions. I, as a professional psychotherapist, am trained to listen to your feelings and questions, to provide nonjudgmental support, and to skillfully facilitate you to learn, explore and grow in a safe environment.[/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”Q3 What is Drama Therapy? Why use Drama Therapy?”]A3 As always, you customize your therapy experience. I can provide you with the optional tools of drama therapy — when you feel comfortable, and when you feel it’s appropriate. For instance, we might use puppets or sand play, experience others’ perspectives by role playing, or playing with storytelling.

The National Association for Drama Therapy, describes drama therapy as “the intentional use of drama and/or theater processes to achieve therapeutic goals.” Drama Therapy usually does not require a formal performance. Simple dialogue, role-playing, or improvisational story telling can be part of Drama Therapy as well.

We use Drama Therapy because in the integrative healing process talking is, sometime, not enough. Have you experienced the moment that you cognitively knew what you need to do, but you just couldn’t do it? The creative arts engage both the mind and the body, this kind of work can lead to more of a sense of wholeness and connection. Action methods engage both hemispheres of the brain, as well as the limbic system (where emotions are processed). When your insights and healing moments are integrated into the body, you are practicing the new way of being both behaviorally and psychologically. [/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”Q4 Do I need to have drama/theatre or art experience to partake in any of our services?”]A4 Not at all. Sometimes it’s hard to express what we’re feeling with words. Using our body and facial expressions, we can more easily communicate what we’re going through. We have a wide range of drama and and arts-based approaches that anyone can feel comfortable with. Our use of drama and arts-based approaches are slowly and intentionally integrated with talk therapy, which makes it perfect for most shy clients. Based on your path and your acceptance of drama and arts approaches, I will adjust the work content, and I will respect your willingness to participate in these approaches.[/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”Q5 What happens in the therapy room? Is it confidential?”]A5 We will start off with a basic intake interview, then — as appropriate — I may suggest non-verbal ways to help you to clarify where you are with current issues and achieve your therapeutic goals. All processes are completely confidential. My first priority is to my relationship with you, my client. Unless I’m either subpoenaed by a court order or believe my clients are about to cause danger to themselves or someone else, I will not share pertinent information with anyone — including law enforcement, unless absolutely necessary.[/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”Q6 I am interested in working with you. What’s next? Do I need to prepare anything specifically?”]A6 I am glad that you are interested in working with me. You don’t have to prepare any materials before our first session. You may feel slightly nervous or anxious at the beginning, which is very normal. Just click “CONTACT” and leave me a message, and I will contact you as soon as possible so we can address any further questions you might have. [/su_spoiler]
